Leenane village

Leenane is situated on the southern shore of Killary Harbour, which is Ireland's only fjord. The village boasts spectacular views of the fjord, and of the Galway and Mayo Mountains.

The area is wild and beautiful, combining bogs, lakes, sea and mountains. It has a worldwide reputation as an area of outstanding natural beauty and several famous films have been shot right on our doorstep, including "The Field" and "Tristan and Isolde".
It is far from the madding crowd - but there is plenty for visitors of all ages to do and see. Come and explore this magical corner of West Connemara - you will never forget it!

Surrounding Area

In the surrounding area there are many activities to keep you occupied, such as scuba diving with the Grays in Scubadive West. Outdoor activities such as Bungee Jumping, Paintball, Surfing, Sea Kayaking and many more are just 2km away with the Young's at the Killary Adventure Centre and also at Delphi Adventure Centre.
If cycling is your thing then Killary Tours is the answer, offering both guided and self guided packages. Horse riding along with walking and hiking are Ireland's fastest growing outdoor activities and Leenane is an ideal location in which to base yourself for hikes like the Maumturk's, Twelve Pins, Mweelrea, Ben Gorm, The Sheefry Hills and the Partry Mountains which all surround the the village on all sides. Both high and low level walks are available. Leenane hosts an annual "Leenane Hill Walking Festival" on the May Bank Holiday Weekend. We're well situated for the angler, both game & sea, within easy reach are the lakes of Mask, Corrib and Carra, the salmon fisheries of Delphi and Erriff and the sea angling centres of Westport and Clifden.
